Who run the world? Girls! Yes, we are talking about the female olympic athletes that are heading to Rio ready to win gold.

The 2016 summer Olympics are just around the corner, and the girls of Team USA are ready to give the world a run for their money.

Here are some of the inspirational women that we’re rooting on to take home the gold:

Our 2016 Fierce Female Olympic Athletes

1.     Gabby Douglas, Gymnastics

This powerhouse gymnast and member of the Fierce Five won over the hearts of millions back in London in 2012, taking home gold in both team and all-around events. She also helped Team USA bring home gold at the 2011 and 2015 world championships, giving her a solid foundation for her Olympic career. The twenty year-old gymnast has quite the resume with her reality show, Douglas Family Gold, on Oxygen as well as sharing the cover of Teen Vogue with fellow teammate Simone Bile.  This girl is defintely a fan favorite!

2.     Simone Manuel, Swim

This nineteen-year-old swimmer is a fresh face in the race to the Olympics. Simone is a sophomore at Stanford University and juggles a full-time training schedule that makes our weekly visits to Soulcycle seem like a walk in the park. Talk about motivation. This Olympic hopeful has won countless NCAA championships and was a finalist for the Honda Sports Award, which is given to the top female student-athletes. She’s spent all year training for the trials, and we can’t wait to see her claim her spot on the team.

     3.     Allyson Felix, Track and Field

This veteran Olympic athlete has walked away with one gold and two silver medals and is hungry for more as she heads into her fourth Olympics. Allyson has had a difficult start to her goal after being held back by an injury, but she’s not going down without a fight. The runner had to re-prioritize her training schedule to focus on her best event, the 200 meter. Regardless of the outcome, this athlete has inspired so many girls already and will inspire many more to come.

     4.    Ibtihaj Muhammad, Fencing

This lady is one one of the fiercest of the from the female olympic athletes as she is truly a first of her kind. Ibtihaj is the first Muslim woman who observes hijab (a Muslim head scarf) to qualify for the United States Olympic Team. Her main goal, besides winning gold of course, is to be a positive light for the Muslim-American community. In fact, she’s already on the right track after Time Magazine named her one of their top 100 Most Influential People of 2016. We can’t wait to see Ibtihaj fight for gold later this summer.

     5.     Gwen Jorgensen, Triathlon

If you thought one sport was hard, try competing in three all at once! Gwen is a world champion triathlon athlete (that’s running, swimming AND cycling) who made her Olympic debut in 2012. She made history in 2013 as the first triathlete to win four World Triathlon Series in a row, talk about getting your daily cardio. Gwen doesn’t just have gold on her mind, she also wants to help up-and-coming triathletes pursue their dreams with the Gwen Jorgensen Scholarship. This scholarship is available to junior draft and paralympic athletes, allowing them to cover all the travel and training expenses that come with being a full-time athlete.

These fierce female olympic athletes are definitely showing some incredible #girlpower, and we can’t wait to see them in action in Rio!
